Day 1

Ayrshire coast

Day 1Ayrshire coast50–65 miles · 1–1.5 h driving

Renfrew → Culzean

Things to do

Use Culzean as the main afternoon stop: woodland, coastal views and the Swan Pond can fill the time without another long drive.

Eat & drink

Home Farm Kitchen, Culzean: food within the estate; check admission and café times.

Practical details

Keep lunch within the Culzean outing rather than adding another coastal drive.

Sleep

Culzean Castle Club Site: Culzean.

Practical details

Choose the Culzean overnight for an Ayrshire coast day before heading into Galloway.

Facilities: Grass and hardstanding pitches, electric options, toilets, showers and washing-up facilities. Some pitches slope; bring levelling equipment.

Alternative: Ayr Craigie Gardens Club Campsite. North in Ayr: revise the coast visit and following day’s departure.

Day 2

Stranraer

Day 2Stranraer60–80 miles · 1.5–2 h driving

Culzean → Portpatrick

Things to do

Use Stranraer as a gateway to the Rhins, or book Kitchen Coos & Ewes for a specific farm experience on the way south.

Eat & drink

Kitchen Coos & Ewes: food is tied to its booked experiences; it is not a walk-in café.

Sleep

Galloway Point Holiday Park, Portpatrick: Portpatrick.

Practical details

Base the Portpatrick stage here, rather than returning inland after the coast.

Facilities: Hardstanding and grass pitches with electric hook-up, modern showers/toilets and laundry.

Pitch booking: Touring normally runs March–October; reserve the vehicle pitch directly.

Alternative: Seaward Holiday Park. Kirkcudbright is a different coastal base: this needs a revised sightseeing day.

Day 3

Portpatrick

Day 3Portpatrick0–15 miles · 0–45 min driving

Portpatrick → Portpatrick

Things to do

Explore the harbour and choose a short coast-path section. Keep exposed clifftop walks for suitable weather.

Eat & drink

The Waterfront, Portpatrick: harbourfront food; confirm service.

Day 4

Whithorn

Day 4Whithorn75–95 miles · 2.5–3 h driving

Portpatrick → Kirkcudbright

Things to do

Make the Whithorn Trust exhibitions and roundhouse visit the focus, then choose the Isle of Whithorn waterfront if you have time.

Eat & drink

Whithorn Trust café or Steam Packet Inn, Isle of Whithorn.

Practical details

A tearoom break during the Whithorn exhibitions and reconstructed roundhouse visit. Use it on the Whithorn day, not as a Kirkcudbright café.

Sleep

Seaward Holiday Park: Kirkcudbright.

Practical details

A coastal base by Kirkcudbright for the galleries and harbour day. Eat in town or cook at the pitch; Whithorn belongs to a separate outing.

Facilities: Heated shower/toilet block, laundry, small shop and a seasonal outdoor pool. Dhoon Bay is a short walk away.

Alternative: Galloway Forest Holiday Park. A forest base rather than a harbour-town evening.

Day 5

Kirkcudbright

Day 5Kirkcudbright0–20 miles · 0–1 h driving

Kirkcudbright → Kirkcudbright

Things to do

Stay in Kirkcudbright today: explore its galleries, working harbour and painted town streets. Whithorn already has its own day on this route. Reserve dinner at the Selkirk Arms and return to the same Seaward pitch.

Eat & drink

Stay with the galleries and harbour today. This restaurant is in Kirkcudbright itself.

Selkirk Arms

Practical details

A sit-down lunch or dinner in Kirkcudbright itself. Reserve a table; the hotel asks diners to book ahead.

Day 6

Dumfries

Day 6Dumfries65–85 miles · 2–2.5 h driving

Kirkcudbright → Moffat

Things to do

Visit Robert Burns House on Burns Street in Dumfries, which has free admission, then walk beside the Nith. This gives the final sightseeing day a town focus before the route returns to Renfrew.

Eat & drink

The Usual Place, Dumfries: a named café option in the local food directory.

Sleep

Moffat Camping and Caravanning Club Site: Moffat.

Practical details

An A74(M)-side final base for the return to Renfrew.

Facilities: Toilets, showers, accessible facilities and grass or hardstanding electric pitches.

Pitch booking: Book hardstanding where available: grass drainage can be poor. Follow the Club’s published arrival route because access needs care.

Alternative: Galloway Forest Holiday Park. A much farther-west forest base. Use only with a revised Dumfries visit and final return drive.

Day 7

Return to Renfrew

Day 7Return to Renfrew70–85 miles · 1.5–2 h driving

Moffat → Renfrew

Things to do

Breakfast at your final pitch, then return to Renfrew. Aim to arrive around 11:00, allowing time for traffic, refuelling and the standard noon handback.

Eat & drink

Breakfast in the van before departure.

Sleep

No overnight: return day.
