Why choose this route?

Base yourself around Brodick and Lochranza for castle grounds, island food and a coastal walk. Arran’s ferry timetable decides whether this works in three hire days or deserves another night.

Isle of Arran — good for: An island atmosphere without the long drive to Skye; castle grounds, coast and village food make varied days. The compromise: Vehicle ferry availability sets the timetable. An afternoon collection and a tightly timed return sailing can squeeze the useful island hours.

Itineraries

Day 1

Brodick

Collection: Allow for the 14:00 handover in Renfrew before starting this day. Choose an evening stop that fits the campsite’s check-in time.

Book the vehicle ferry first, then fit the day around its check-in time. Brodick Castle’s gardens and woodland offer an island introduction without committing to a mountain ascent.

☕ Eat & drink

Brodick Castle tearoom — combine refreshments with the estate visit.

🌙 Sleep

Lochranza Campsite — a north-island base; allow for the drive from Brodick.

Make it work: Check the actual departure port with CalMac: mainland Arran services and terminals can change.

Day 2

Lochranza

Walk by Lochranza’s castle and waterfront, then choose a stretch of the west coast or Machrie Moor for your main outing. Give deer plenty of space around the village and campsite.

☕ Eat & drink

Casks Café / Stags Pavilion — the campsite’s local food guide links the options.

🌙 Sleep

If you extend the hire, Lochranza Campsite is a named island base. With a three-day hire and noon handback, take a suitable ferry back today and book a mainland pitch near Renfrew.

Make it work: For a seafood detour, Mara in Corrie is on the east coast; make the detour only if it fits your sailing.

Day 3

Return to Renfrew

Today is the return journey, with standard handback by 12 noon. Check live traffic, allow time to refuel and arrive at the agreed return point. Optional sightseeing and cafés come after the return only, unless a later handback has been agreed.

Food: Breakfast in the van before leaving your final pitch keeps the morning flexible. Sleeping: No overnight pitch is included for this final hire day; book an additional night if extending.
