Settle in, then walk the harbours

Use one coastal pitch for several nights and visit the East Neuk villages on foot. Falkland gives the approach day a woodland and village change of scene; St Andrews has enough for a separate beach-and-town day. The appeal is the time between stops, not the distance covered.

Why choose it: Compact stages, food stops and beaches; a good family choice when long Highland drives do not appeal.

The trade-off: Harbour streets are tight, and popular food stops can have queues. This is a settled coastal landscape rather than a remote camping escape.

Drive times and approach

Leg Planning allowance
Renfrew → Leven base Allow approximately 1¾–2¼ hours
Silverburn → St Andrews The site suggests around 25 minutes
Silverburn → East Neuk The site suggests around 20 minutes

Allow longer for village stops, traffic and the slower local roads. These are planning estimates.

Falkland, East Neuk and St Andrews

Falkland before the coast

Walk the village and an estate trail, then stop at the Stables Café. Continue to Silverburn Park for a campervan pitch; no need to shift sites every time you change village.

Crail and Anstruther

Walk down to Crail's harbour from appropriate parking, then head to Anstruther for the Scottish Fisheries Museum and Anstruther Fish Bar. Leave time for the meal rather than treating it as a five-minute takeaway stop.

Pittenweem or St Andrews

Pair Pittenweem's working harbour with the Cocoa Tree chocolate café. Keep St Andrews and West Sands for another day so the trip does not become a string of car parks.

Harbour access, tides and camper facilities

The site has water and a black-waste point for guests, which matters because Elie Ruby Bay's disposal point is reported closed. The Elie Chain Walk is a tidal outing requiring separate planning, not the default family coastal stroll.
