Why choose this route?
Stay within a compact coastal region and spend the saved driving time in its harbours, cafés and footpaths. Falkland, St Andrews and the East Neuk offer a different Scottish trip from the Highland loops.
Fife & East Neuk — good for: Compact stages, food stops and beaches; a good family choice when long Highland drives do not appeal. The compromise: Harbour streets are tight, and popular food stops can have queues. This is a settled coastal landscape rather than a remote camping escape.

Itineraries
Day 1
Falkland
Collection: Allow for the 14:00 handover in Renfrew before starting this day. Choose an evening stop that fits the campsite’s check-in time.
Walk the village and an estate trail, with Falkland Palace an optional admission. Choose woodland rather than a hill summit if cloud hides the views.
Make it work: Craigmead’s approach is narrower and rougher than the main-road touring option; check access before choosing it.
Day 2
St Andrews
Combine a beach walk with the town, or choose Craigtoun Country Park for a family-focused day. Park once and walk instead of repeatedly moving through the centre.
Make it work: Check current access for the castle and cathedral before adding them as fixed visits.
Day 3
Crail and Anstruther
Walk Crail’s harbour lanes, then choose Anstruther or a short Fife Coastal Path section. Make this a village-and-coast day rather than a long drive.
Make it work: The harbour streets are tight. Use signed parking and walk down; carry coins for facilities.
Day 4
Elie and Pittenweem
Choose a short coastal walk and Pittenweem’s working harbour. Treat the Elie Chain Walk as a separate tidal outing requiring proper planning, not the default easy stroll.
Make it work: The Trust’s current page reports Elie Ruby Bay’s toilet disposal point closed. Use your booked site’s facilities.
Day 5
Return to Renfrew
Today is the return journey, with standard handback by 12 noon. Check live traffic, allow time to refuel and arrive at the agreed return point. Optional sightseeing and cafés come after the return only, unless a later handback has been agreed.
Food: Breakfast in the van before leaving your final pitch keeps the morning flexible. Sleeping: No overnight pitch is included for this final hire day; book an additional night if extending.
