Best for
Museums, a bus into Edinburgh and a coastal lunch
Driving
Gentle, with three nights in one base
When to go
October to March, with a booked winter pitch
Ferries
Mainland roads; no vehicle ferry

Why this trip: One booked base for three nights, with a low-ground outdoor day and an indoor option.

The trade-off: The North Berwick day is weather dependent. Swap it for more time in Edinburgh if coastal winds or road conditions are poor.
