Art, forest and a separate Whithorn day<\/h2>\n

Build the shorter trip around Kirkcudbright and the forest, with Whithorn as a deliberate extra day. Portpatrick and the Rhins form a different western stage; adding them to every forest day creates a lot of driving. Stargazing is a possible evening bonus, not the only reason the holiday works.<\/p>\n

Why choose it:<\/strong> A south-west alternative with art, archaeology and forest landscapes; useful for visitors who have already toured the Highlands.<\/p>\n

The trade-off:<\/strong> Coastal peninsulas are longer detours than they look, and cloud can remove the dark-sky element entirely.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The Whithorn Trust's exhibitions and reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse make this more than a quick ruin stop. Its tearoom provides the caf\u00e9 break, with cakes and scones. Give this stage a day rather than squeezing it between the forest and Portpatrick.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/section>\n
